(An Anti-Bullying Workshop for Parents)

Parents routinely ask me âHow can we make our school(s) better?â because they want the best for their kids. I always tell them to work towards making sure EVERY student feels safe and welcome both in and out of the classroom. Parents are one of the keys to making this a reality. Understanding how to identify and deal with bullying is a large part of reaching that goal. Many times âwe donât know what we donât knowâ and the actions of just one parent could potentially be life-saving.
Our 45 minute Zoom workshop for parents âWE ARE PART OF THE SOLUTIONâ hits upon the following topics:
Ways Parents Can Help - Identifying and Understanding Signs of Bullying - Parent & Legal Responsibilities of Bullying (Yes, parents are actually being sued for the actions of their kids.) - The 4 Types of Bullying - How to Facilitate a Parent Discussion with Your Child - School Contact and Responsibilities
Presenter: Christopher M. Bianchi brings 30 years of educational experience to Game Changer Solutions. He was an award winning teacher in the nationally recognized Pittsford Central School District and is also a former professor in the School of Education at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. He is a national published columnist and has facilitated workshops for administrators, teachers, parents and students for 15 plus years. Chris is from a family of educators as both his parents were teachers. One of his goals is to reduce the amount of school and community bullying around the country.

Forestville celebrates our community members who have served our country in one of the branches of Armed Forces: Army, Air Force, Marines, Navy, and Coast Guard. Thank you for your service!!!
At approximately 9:15am this morning, our maintenance department discovered a backed up drain on the first floor, which ultimately led to an odor throughout the school. The students and staff assembled in the auditorium while the drain was cleaned and the hallways were aired out. All students have returned to their scheduled classes and our day is resuming as normal.
If you are a middle school parent, you had an opportunity to sign up for a parent conference at out Open House on October 27th. However, if you missed Open House and would like to sign up for a time slot, please call our main office.

What a huge success!
It's always more difficult to get out of bed and get going the morning after our Open House. It always feels like the following day should be a Saturday! LOL
I want to take a moment this morning to thank each of you for helping to make last night's event a big success! We don't take an official count of the number of parents and students who attend the event, but I sense that last night was our biggest turnout! There were many positive comments from our parents about the structure of the evening and how well it all played out.
A special thank you to everyone who participated by running fundraisers. It was really nice to see so much "life" represented in the building at various stations/tables. The spaghetti dinner was perfect! Mel and Sarah earn mega kudos! This morning as I walked the halls, I ran into Brayden Smith who was devouring a banana loaf that he just picked up in Alison's room. He said, "Mr. Grande! You have to get some baked goods from Mrs. Barrick's room! The banana loaf is AMAZING!" That comment was consistent with other comments I heard last night about the dessert table! Nice Job, Alison!
Unsung hero this week! Ann Cullora - As you know, Ann's family is grieving the passing of Vic's mother. This is a very difficult time for them. However, Ann jumped right in and helped keep the ship afloat this week by manning the main office as Mel set the building up for Open House. Trust me when I say this, it was a crazy busy week in the office and Ann kept it running like a well-oiled machine! Thanks, Ann!
I always say this, but I'll repeat it once again, "Mel does a great job making me look good!" LOL! Seriously, last night's event ran so smoothly due to Mel's attention to detail (possibly OCD? LOL) and the pride she takes in making our school a special place. She made sure that I didn't forget anything that needed to happen to ensure Open House's success! Thanks, Mel.
As I traveled through the building for the Open House component of the evening, I was so impressed with how well prepared our teachers were and how each classroom was set up to encourage guests to enter and explore the room. Some of the rooms even had activities and raffled off prizes for parents and students! Impressive job by all!
The evening was topped off by an exceptionally talented band and chorus performance!  Congrats to our students, Mr. Hagen, and Mrs. Gier!

On Friday, Oct.7, students and staff will practice a variety of emergency procedures throughout the day.
On Friday, Sept. 30, the district will send out an All Call to parents regrading the drill.
On Monday, Oct. 3, the district will send a flyer home to parents regarding the drill.

Please be advised that students may arrive home 15 minutes earlier than their normal scheduled time. The emergency drill is part of a continued effort to keep our students and staff safe. As tradition would have it, we assemble on the first day of school at the bell tower. This long-standing tradition has been going on for over a century! The bell was purchased by a group of ladies from the village in 1845. Thatâs a 176 years ago! Back then, the bell would ring each day reminding the children to come to school.
